I was already up and outside before the last patch of ice his Berk.
It wasn't planning to stay, I could tell that by smelling the air and tasting the warm weather that was already on it's way. But I wasn't going to tell the kids that were already breaking out the pieces of carpet to find enough ice to slide on. I was surprised that they weren't bored with the snow and ice anymore after this long winter. They were so cute as they tried to shovel the ice to make it smoother outside side of their homes. Bet mom and dad wouldn't be so thrilled after they succeeded though.
I went down to Gobber's shop and opened up before anyone even walked around there. It was more like a workshop now for him and Hiccup to improve the village one gadget at a time rather then a place for making weapons and other tools of destruction now that we are their friends. Of course once in a while someone would bring in an axe or sword to be sharpened and weighed, but that axe is usually for cutting wood, and that sword means that someone is going to venture out from the village (with their dragon) and bring it for protection. I wasn't afraid of weapons anymore now that I spent a little more time in here  with the two of them.
I started piling the floor rags up against the door to prevent the melting snow from flowing. It wouldn't hurt anything in this dirt floor, but it just made a mess. Probably one of my unknown human traits that I just realized I had; Cleanliness.
I herd Hiccup's notorious footsteps coming towards the door. As I opened it for him he seemed surprised as he stopped dead in his tracks. "Oh, Tootles, there you are. How long have you been out?"
"Not long." I slid some slushy ice out of the way with my bare feet.
"Ouch, how can you stand being barefoot? It's like ten degrees out with morning ice on the ground?" He started hobbling towards me again when as he was rambling on he suddenly lost footing with his good foot and slipped on the slush. My instincts allowed me to move faster then what was going around behind me. I quickly grabbed his shoulders before his behind hit the ground, then grabbed him around the waist and set him on his feet.
"One gets used to it." I said without missing a beat.
He laughed nervously and patted me head. "You're tiny, but tough."
A cute short story that came to me while I was ready one of Avannak's stories. Seriously, I got to the second paragraph, stopped whatever I was doing, and just started writting this short.
CUTE!
If you don't know what's going on, your best bet is to read...
